I had a great time strolling down the sandy stretch of Nea Chora coastline.

The main beach, Nea Chora, is located just a quick 17-minute walk from the heart of Chania’s old harbor. Away 1.2km west of the city center of Chania, this location can be found along Akti Papanikoli Street, directly opposite the islet of Lazaretta.

With its golden sands and occasional rocks, this beach is a haven for city dwellers who don’t wish to venture far from urban comforts.

The beachfront is dotted with amenities, making it a convenient spot for a day under the sun.

Each summer, the lively “Sardine Festival” (usually at the end of August) fills the air with music, dance, and the aroma of free fish, a treat for all visitors.

Not far from Nea Chora Beach, there is a second beach across the Kladisos River, the more tranquil Kladissos Beach.
