Would you believe me if I told you that Iβd found the most spectacular beach in Crete?
The Lagoufa beach is located right after the east end of Analipsi main beach, around 59km southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 24km east of Ierapetra.
It consists of two adjacent coves, which are formed near the luxurious hotels of Makrigialos.

The first cove has fine golden sand, and shallow blue water and is very well organized with umbrellas, bars, showers, and water sports, due to the local hotel.
This might look private, but access to the beach is permitted to everybody since there are no private beaches in Greece.
You can access the beaches of Lagoufa either through the hotels or by crossing the rocky east end of Makrigialos beach (you will have to walk in shallow water for a few meters).

From the first cove, there is a wooden path that leads to the easternmost beach.
Below this path, there are some tiny beaches formed in the rocky limestone, while in some places there is fresh water gushing from the rocks or the sand.
